Wimbledon - The Movie

At AMC 1000 Van Ness, San Francisco

I went to see this movie with my friend Penny. It was a typical chick flick. Soppy, romantic, girl meets boy, rediculously happy ending. Still, I enjoyed if for some things I miss from home - English accents, views of London, driving on the left side and the furore Wimbledon can drum up when a British player does good, (I was raised in a tennis family so I know a bit about the game), and, oh, actor who depicted the German player was quite tasty too, Penny and I both agreed...

Burke's Canoe Trip on the Russian Year

On Sunday I organised the second Annual Canoe Trip on the Russian River with Burke's Canoe Trips. This is the fourth year in a row I have done this trip. It's a perfect day out and even better when you share the experience with 13 good friends.

Robert had a waterproof casing for his little Canon Elph, so he managed to snap some far better shots than we did. Check out Robert's pictures here

When I got home after work on Saturday I found Fred on the deck watching the strangest flock of birds either of us have ever seen. Hundreds of them, bunched together, like a huge shoal of fish, all turning and all catching the light or the shade at the same time. Amazing in their movement, a still picture doesn't do them justice.

On Saturday I had to work whilst lucky Fred went sailing on the Bay with Hans, Jenny and Katja.

Sunday September 19th 2004. I was woken up by the first downpour in months and months. Luckily the skies soon cleared to a vivid bright blue offset with brilliant sunshine.

Donnie Darko and Pizza

Last night M & T invited us round to their house to eat pizza and see the brilliantly dark and humourous "Donnie Darko", a film which failed at the box office when it was released in 2001 around the time of 9/11 (the film features a plane engine mysteriously falling on a house).

Coincidentally, I read yesterday that a Directors cut of the movie is currently being released in theatres. It has gained a cult following and this offers an opportinity for many fans to see it on film for the first time. It opens in San Francisco today.
