Who is Harry Wu, and why did someone scatter hundreds and hundreds of handwritten notes saying "Scumbag Harry Wu No Pay His Bills" all over 3rd Street, San Francisco?

This blog does not have an opinion of Harry Wu, we are just reporting on having discovered these hundreds of handwritten notes.

I hadn't thought of Harry Wu for years. He is a Chinese-American human rights activist who after spending many years in forced labor camps in China had made it to the US and become a US citizen. About ten years ago (lord, how does time fly!) he returned to China to get more information about their human rights violations, and he was promptly arrested, thus highlighting China's human rights issues to the whole world. After a lot of international pressure, and no doubt some consideration of how arresting him had backfired, Chinese authorities let him go. He returned to the US and to obscurity - as I said, I hadn't thought about him for years.

I have no idea if this is the same Harry Wu whose name you encountered. If it is, I wouldn't be surprised if this was another incompetent attempt by the Chinese government to go after him. Those guys just don't learn
