Sam Francisco

Just stuff about me, Sam, living in San Francisco

Friday, February 25, 2005

We are sad. We have to leave our wonderful apartment this weekend. Nothing else is quite going to live up to this unique and amazing place we have been lucky enough to live in for the last year. Too bad - our landlord sold and we couldn't afford to buy it.
No posts for a while until we are back online in our new place.
In the meantime - some pictures to remember how lucky we were for the last 365 days...

What is this?

Monday, February 21, 2005

Last week we went to LA to the attend the 3rd Annual Visual Effects Society Awards in Hollywood. It was a grand, sit-down dinner, black tie affair. It meant I got to wear my fancy frock. I was nominated as part of a four-person team for "OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY AN ANIMATED CHARACTER IN A LIVE ACTION MOTION PICTURE" award. Sadly we didn't win for our work on Lemony Snickett's "Sunny" character, but we did get mentioned in the opening address for making the digital Sunny look so real, we were even fooling the VFX professionals. That made me prouder than winning the award itself. (Actually - the award would have been better still, but I am just trying to put on a brave face.) We had a great time, but our pictures aren't that great. You'll get the idea though...

If you look very closely, you might spot Tom Hanks.
Just over a week ago, my nephews and niece were trying to guess the mystery object in the photo. Here is the answer: It was a couple of cafe tables.

Bay area readers will probably have heard about the temple being built by Petaluma artist David Best, in San Rafael's Canal district (just a block from where I work). On Wednesday lunchtime it looked something like this...
Thursday lunchtime it was nearly completely torn down :(
